Ana Hotels, the hotel company controlled by vice-premier George Copos, has completed the acquisition of the controlling interests in Athenee Phenix Group (APG), which owns the five-star Athenee Palace Hilton in Bucharest, the company announced. Ana Hotels took over 52.4% from three France-based companies held by Vivendi Universal: Anjou Services SNC, Cibex International and Harcop Romania. Ana Hotels has this way become the majority shareholder of the hotel, with the other shareholders being Athenee Palace, a state-run company (36%) and CMC International, a company controlled by businessman Mihai Carciog, one of the Evenimentul zilei daily founders (12%). Ana Hotels management did not reveal the value of the transaction but sources on the market say it revolves around 25-30 million dollars (20-24 million euros), including some of the debts.
