Austrian marketing machine attracts over 180,000 Romanians in Tirol or Salzburg resorts
More than 200,000 Romanians had travelled to Austria on holiday or for business since the start of the year until September, 5.4% fewer than in the same period of last year, according to the data provided by Austria's National Tourist Office.
"Vienna was still the Austrian destination visited by the
highest number of Romanians since the beginning of the year. Still,
against the January-September 2009 period, the number of Romanians
arriving in Vienna dropped by 10.8% this year," stated Gabriele
Lenger, marketing manager in Romania with Austria's National
Tourist Office.
Lenger added that almost 644,000 was the number of nights spent
overall by the Romanians who were accommodated in Austrian cities'
hotels and pensions in the first nine months of the year, meaning
Romanians on average spend three nights in Austrian hotels or
pensions. For the winter season, the Austrian officials expect
Romanians to buy more travel packages starting January 2011, when
holidays get cheaper than those in the Christmas or New Year's Eve
periods.
Almost 185,000 Romanians visited Austrian mountain resorts last
year, with most of them choosing Tirol and Salzburg, according to
ZF calculations.
