Romania is about to endorse one of the most generous schemes intended to support investment in green energy, with a report of the World Bank specifying the current legislation in the field is over 50% more generous than the European regulations.

This means that an investor in Romania that will supply one MWh of green power to the grid will get 160 euros in case of wind power while investments in wind farms in Europe get an incentive of about 90 euros per MWh on the average.

"Romania has established a generous green certificates program to promote the development of renewable energy. Incentives are very generous, including 110 euros/MWh for wind plus the revenue from the sale of electricity in the market, for a total of 150-160 euros/MWh assuming market prices in the range of 40-50 euros/MWh. This is over 50% above the average European support price of about 90 euros /MWh, through feed-in tariffs where generators earn no additional revenue from sales to the market," reads the World Bank report.
