Aluminium alloys producer Alprom Slatina, controlled by Alro Slatina, the biggest primary aluminium smelter in Central and Eastern Europe, this year intends to make investments worth some 30 million dollars (some 25 million euros) in order to acquire equipment, which will help to diversify the range of products supplied. Alro announced investment programmes standing at some 135 million euros in the three units of the group, namely Alro, Alum and Alprom. These investments will be used for retooling production capacities and meeting environmental protection standards. "Investments scheduled for Alprom this year will be used to upgrade and develop production capacities, which manufacture goods with a high added value that see a high deficit internationally," stated Gheorghe Dobra, general manager of Alro, majority shareholder of Alprom. "Our strategy aims to increase the current amount of production, from 45,000 tonnes of alloy per year, to 120,000 tonnes by 2010," Dobra added. ZF
