Marathon, based in Bucharest, one of the largest companies on the local market involved in food distribution, forecasts an approximately 60 million-euro turnover for this year, up by at least 20% on last year. In addition, Contec Foods, based in Tecuci, one of the leading players on the canned food market, will see a 50% turnover increase this year, to around 15 million euros. Both Contec Foods and Marathon Distribution Group are companies held by businessmen Aifun Suliman, a Romanian citizen of Turkish origin, and Levent Atin, a Turkish citizen. "In the first quarter of this year alone, Contec Foods saw a 45% increase against the same time last year. This year's growth target stands at 50%," said Alin Firastraeru, national sales manager of Marathon Distribution. Marathon Distribution ended 2007 with a 185 million-RON (55.4 million-euro) turnover, up 25% against results posted in the preceding year, while Contec Foods saw a 20% increase against the 29.6 million RON (8.4 million euros) derived in 2006. The two companies' investment budget for this year amounts to six million euros, a level similar to that seen in 2007.
