The top three car importers, ranked within the top five sellers on the market, saw 52% growth on average in the first two months of this year, while domestic producers saw an average decline of 11.3% in sales. This trend was also witnessed last year, when the importers' total sales went up 30%, to over 137,000 cars. Sales of the Dacia producer fell 2%, and sales of Daewoo increased 13%, while the total market growth stood at 14%. Representatives of the biggest importer on the market, Porsche Romania, were encouraged by the commercial results seen in the first two months of the year, a figure up 48% against the same period last year and, as a result, have revised their sales target for the entire year, previously estimated at around 47,500 units. "We are trying to reach a level of 50,000 units for this year. Sales in the first two months have been encouraging, 3,000 units higher than those in the corresponding period of last year. The sales increase will be sustained by the larger Skoda and Volkswagen cars, amid a regression of the D (premium) segment," Brent Valmar, general manager of Porsche Romania told Mediafax.
Skoda and Volkswagen were the most active brands in the portfolio, seeing a 48% increase, to 7,482 cars in the first two months of the year, selling 3,127 and 2,948 units respectively.
