Leader of beer market shows signs of stabilising, after 11% decline

Romanian sales of SABMiller, producer of the Ursus andTimişoreana brands, remained steady (in terms of volume) in theOctober-December period of 2010, compared with the similar periodof 2009, at a time when the market recorded a decline, according todata in the company's quarterly report.
The reporting period is the third quarter of the company'sfinancial year, i.e. April 2010-March 2011.
The stabilising trend of Ursus Breweries sales is a positive signalfor the entire market, after the previous downward trend.Therefore, in April-September of 2010, the first half of thecompany's financial year, the decline amounted to 11% against theprevious financial year.
The company, which also has brands such as Ciucaş, Stejar, Azuga,Redd's, and Peroni Nastro Azzurro in its portfolio, has plants inTimişoara, Buzău and Braşov.
The turnover of Ursus Breweries, the local subsidiary of SABMiller,stagnated in RON terms and fell by over 12% in euro terms, to 1.2billion RON (284.2 million euros), according to Trade Registry datafor 2009, the latest available data.
