04.11.2003, 00:00 13

Talks on the merger between oil groups MOL (Hungary) and PKN Orlen (Poland), two of the candidates left in the race for Petrom privatisation, have reached the authorities. The merger plans for the two companies, which would create the oil market leader in Central Europe (some $6bn capitalisation) are in progress, as the officials in Hungary and Poland hinted, quoted by the Polish weekly Warsaw Business Journal. MOL and PKN made the shortlist for Petrom, and are expected to submit bids by November 10. The shortlist includes 11 companies, such as ConocoPhilips, Occidental, Alon, ENI, OMV, Glencore, Gazprom and TNK BP. ZF
