Riso Scotti, the Romanian branch of Europe's largest rice producer, posted turnover worth 3 million euros in the first six months of the year, with net profit worth 200,000 euros, equivalent to the company's business for the whole of last year. "The product with the highest sales during this period is the 1-kilo package Riso Scotti Bob cu Bob," said Angelo Lonati, administrative manager of Riso Scotti. This year, the producer opened the company's second plant in Olt county. Scotti has also built silos near the plant, with a storage capacity of 1,200 tonnes of rice. Angelo Lonati did not reveal the total value of this year's investments, but mentioned that it was lower than in 2006 (around 20 million euros). "We continue to acquire land to grow rice. Currently, we have a cultivated area of 7,200 hectares and our short-term goal is to extend it to 10,000 hectares," said the administrative manager. He added this year the high temperatures had not significantly affected the company's production, with Scotti having around 35,000-40,000 tonnes of raw rice available from its own crops.
