Furniture manufacturer Simex, based in Simleu Silvaniei and member of the Simex group of firms, has estimated a turnover worth 15.5 million RON (4.3 million euros) for this year, accounting for a 5% increase against last year's figures.
In 2006, Simex's profit amounted to 925,000 RON (260,000 euros), a 235% increase against figures seen in 2005. Currently, Simex representatives estimate an approximately 5-6% increase in profit and an 11% increase in productivity.
"The tripling of the gross profit was a result of the introduction of a new variety of products and an acceleration in export deliveries, in particular to Russia, which is our main market. Additionally, we have begun using modern technology, which has generated a 15% increase in productivity," Vasile Negru, deputy general manager of Simex Simleu Silvaniei told ZF.
Negru also stated that the profit for 2006 could have been higher if the costs of energy, transportation and timber had not increased and the foreign currency used in transactions had not depreciated in value. "Last year, losses caused by the depreciation of the euro and of the dollar amounted to 280,000 RON (78,000 euros)," added Vasile Negru.
The main market for Simex-branded furniture is Russia, but products are also sold in Romania through the company's three outlets and through another 15 partner outlets.
Simex specialises in manufacturing artistic and luxury furniture, with the plant in Simleu Silvaniei having made 800 living room sets and another 800 bedroom sets in 2006. The plant was privatised in 1994, and after the year 2000, together with the Cesimex plant in Cehu Silvaniei, it formed the Simex group of firms. Simex's majority shareholders are the employees association and a group of individual investors. At present, the group includes six companies: Simex, Cesimex, Simex Plus, Micro, Euro Simex and Nord Simex.
