Still room for growth on ice-cream market: Betty Ice producer sees 20% increase

Betty Ice ice-cream producer targets 20% turnover growth thisyear against 2009, with the same promotion budget it has banked onin recent years, of around 300,000 euros. The company, among the3-4 largest players on the market, last year registered a similarturnover advance. "In 2009, Betty Ice posted sales of around 80mRON (18.9m euros), up 20% year-on-year. We plan to keep up thispace in 2010," stated Vasile Armenean, Betty Ice owner. Thecompany's turnover may be estimated at 23m euros in 2010. Marketcompetition has tightened up in the past year, with the launch ofAlgida, Unilever's ice-cream arm, in Romania. Armenean alsospecified that in 2009 the market was saved by the fact that summertemperatures were favourable for ice-cream consumption. Thecompany's plans for this year include the launch of new ice-creamproducts. Betty Ice has a plant in Suceava, with a capacity ofaround 100 tonnes of ice-cream per day. In recent years, theproducer has also invested in the development of its own network ofice-cream shops.
