Telecommunications company UPC Astral has gained 14,400 new subscribers for its cable TV services in the third quarter, as well as 16,300 new subscribers for Internet access services and 7,300 for fixed-telephony services, according to data published by LibertyGlobal, Astral's majority shareholder. On September 30, UPC Astral had 1.31 million subscribers for cable TV services, 98,000 subscribers for Internet access services and 51,800 for fixed telephony services. In the third quarter, the operator also attracted 14,400 new clients for digital satellite TV (Focus Sat) services, for a total of 23,800. UPC Astral is the European division of the American group LibertyGlobal, the third largest cable operator worldwide. The group saw annual revenue of five billion dollars, providing cable, data and telephony services to over 13 million subscribers worldwide. The American group has so far invested over 500 million dollars in Romania. UPC Romania witnessed a 4.93 million-euro profit last year, and a 28.62 million-euro turnover.
