The top ten building constructors in Romania last year generatedcumulated turnover worth over 3.2bn RON (around 755m euros at anaverage exchange rate of 4.2373 RON/euro of 2009), says BUSINESSMagazin.
The importance of the top ten, even as their cumulated turnoverdoes not reach 1bn euros, can be better seen against the totalvalue of the Romanian construction market, of around 50bn RON(almost 12bn euros) and against the total number of companiesactive in the industry, of around 32,000, according to IBC Focus, acompany specialising in aggregating information from theconstructions and business fields.
The ranking, however, includes only the companies whose corebusiness is the construction of residential and non-residentialbuildings, and not the ones primarily building roads andhighways.
An analysis of a broader ranking, of the 100 largest buildingconstruction companies, shows the sector fared better last year interms of profitability. "The total turnover of the 100 constructioncompanies in 2009 fell by 26% against 2008, showing how muchrecession harmed the Romanian constructions sector. On the otherhand, the overall profit of the 100 firms in 2009 soared by 77%against 2008, from 174m RON (47.2m euros) to 310m RON (73m euros),"reveals an IBC Focus survey.
